Mgcl2 Molecular Weight
An inorganic salt, which has the chemical formula of MgCl2, is Magnesium Chloride. Also, MgCl2 molecular weight is 95.210 g/mol. Magnesium chloride predominantly exists as various hydrates, hexahydrate particularly MgCl2 *6H2O which is having the molecular weight of 203.301 g/mol. Occurs as a natural mineral Bischofite, magnesium chloride hexadyrate named after a german geologist Karl Gustav Bischo. The reaction of mercury (II) chloride and magnesium, which is Mg + HgCl2 = MgCl2 + Hg, is the preferred synthetic method of preparation of anhydrous magnesium chloride.
Only 0.54% of MgCl2 molecular weight is contained on sea water. However, it is an abundant natural source of the magnesium metal. Approximately 800 tons of sea water is to be proceeded to obtain 1 ton of magnesium metal. Isolation of the magnesium metal from sea water by electrolysis of MgCl2 is involved in the Dow process. First, hydroxide ions precipitate the magnesium cations Mg2+. To regenerate soluble magnesium chloride, the magnesium suspension is treated with HCL then the salt re-crystallizes as hexahydrate. MgCl2*6H2O is finally dehydrated, electrolyzed and melt partially.
Magnesium Chloride is also a colorless crystalline compound, very hygroscopic of salt. It has density of 1.56 g/cm3 hexahydrate, 2.325 g/cm3 anhydrous and a high melting point of 987 K. Magnesium chloride hexahydrate decomposes at 391 K and it is only stable below 373 K. in water with solubility of 35.5 g per 100 g H2O at 298 K, the compound will have been dissolved. It is an exothermic process when you are dissolving MgCl2.
Due to the exothermic nature of its interactions with water, magnesium chloride is efficient as a de-acing agent. You can prevent ice from building up and adhering to the roadway in winter just by simply spraying MgCl2 solution. Less damage is caused to concrete; also, it is less corrosive to metals than other de-acing compounds.
Magnesium chloride is also used in ceramics, extinguishers and in production of fireproofing wood. An essential role is played by this compound as cofactor in polymerase chain reaction or also known PCR, which in molecular biology, it is the fundamental technique.
In many cellular functions, an important role is played by magnesium cations Mg2+, particularly as cofactors in enzymatic reactions. Muscular activity and normal cardiovascular are using magnesium as essential aspect. Magnesium salts is prescribed by doctors as prophylactic and clinical treatment.
J. Durlach and co-authors demonstrated that magnesium chloride has considerably better pharmacological properties including its absorption and cell membrane penetration in September 2005, and also possesses less cell toxicity that commonly used magnesium sulfate.
Magnesium chloride may be harmful if inhaled or swallowed in large doses of MgCl2 molecular weight. Nausea, vomiting, and abdominal discomfort, are caused by ingestion of this salt, when magnesium serum concentration is above 3.5 mg/dL. Especially intravenously administrated, the massive doses may result in more serious symptoms including a loss of reflexes, muscle weakness and hypotension.
