They are marine mammals though it may looks like enormous fish. The dolphins that live in along the coast eat bottom dwelling creatures and fish, while the dolphins that live in open water mostly eat fish and squid. The dolphins swallow their prey without sewing though they have teeth. The larger fish are either shaken to bits or rubbed against something to damage them apart while the smaller fish are swallowed whole. In every day an adult dolphin can eat a food about five percent of their body weight. That means that the dolphins with weight for about 385 pounds will eat almost twenty pounds of squid, shrimp and fish every day. So, a similar sized nursing mother will eat thirty pounds of food every day.
The orca eats birds as good as fish, mammals, walruses, seals, penguins, sea lions, sharks and whales, unlikely the majority of dolphin types. They are usually the most loved performers at marine parks though these huge dolphins look and sound dangerous and they are highly intelligent mammals and very sociable to humans.
To obtain food the dolphins use some strategies, it depends on their habitat. The dolphins that live near the shore can band together to trap and herd fish between them and the rocks underwater while the dolphins that live in the open water may picking off the nearest fish, and then dashing through the circular trap to scoop up the centermost fish and it will ring a school of fish. Sometimes to catch large deep sea fish they will dive down to 1600 feet. Some people who in fishing boats or floating fish plants should be followed by the dolphins to get any fish tossed out.
